New York vs. Boston Comedy Series comes to Vinegar Hill on September 6th!

The rivalry between New York and Boston has long been a battle of wit and grit, extending beyond sports, politics, and even bootlegging. Enter the New York vs. Boston Comedy Series—a hilarious showdown where comedians from both cities take the stage in a side-splitting face-off. Originating in Nantucket, the series later moved to Bridge Street Live before finding its home at Vinegar Hill. Since its debut in 2010, this annual event has delighted audiences with its unique blend of humor and hometown pride. Featuring top comedic talent from both cities, this playful clash of styles continues to captivate, proving that laughter truly is the best rivalry.

Host: Mark Riccadonna

Mark Riccadonna is a comedian, actor, and storyteller known for his engaging humor. With a theater background and global performances, including for US and UN troops, Mark brings relatable comedy to life. His latest Dry Bar Comedy Special, Domestic Nomad, highlights his signature storytelling style.

Team New York: Kevin Flynn

Kevin Flynn is an award winning actor, writer, producer, host, and comedian.

Starting out as a professional soccer player, Kevin made the transition to standup comedian by winning the prestigious Boston Comedy Riot. Since that time, Kevin has gone on to make numerous television and film appearances as a comedian and actor.

Kevin can be seen as The Wedding Coordinator in The Heartbreak Kid with Ben Stiller; in Me, Myself and Irene with Jim Carrey; in Osmosis Jones with Bill Murray; and as Charlotte’s Boyfriend in HBO’s Sex and the City. His character, Bram Walker, was voted one of the most popular boyfriends in the series. Kevin recently completed a role in the movie The Worlds Greatest Beer Run with Russell Crowe and Zac Efron.

While constantly acting and performing standup around the country, Kevin also works as a host and entertainer in the sports world. Flynn has covered World Cup Soccer for Fox Sports, ESPN, and ABC. Flynn’s show, SportsFigures on ESPN, received the POLK Award for excellence in children’s programming. He also created a weekly sports podcast for the ESPN Network called Over the Ball. The show combines the worlds of soccer, comedy, and entertainment. The show has been named MLS Talk Show of the Year.

In 1996, Kevin was the host of The Discovery Channel’s Go For It, an extreme outdoor adventure show where he swam with sharks, jumped out of airplanes, and scaled dangerous peaks. The show led Kevin to create his first one-man show, The Go For It Guy, which won the Best of Fest at the Boston Comedy Festival and HBO’s U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen.

Kevin is currently touring nationally with his latest one-man show, Fear of Heights—A Very Funny Phobia.

Along with continually performing his stand-up, Kevin is also the Founder and Executive Director of the Nantucket Comedy Festival. Each summer, the festival brings top comedic talent to Nantucket Island as the major fundraiser for Stand Up & Learn™, an island-based, year-round comedy education program serving Nantucket’s children. He is in the process of launching the Stand Up & Learn program nationally.

Team Boston: Jackie Flynn

Jackie Flynn is an actor and comedian with prominent standup appearances, as well as extensive film credits to his name. Jackie has emerged as one of the funniest and most talked about comedians to come out of Boston, joining the ranks of Steven Wright, Denis Leary, Lenny Clarke and Jay Leno, and gracing the stages of the IMPROV, COMEDY STORE, FLAPPERS, LAUGH FACTORY, and other noteworthy venues. He has parlayed his success as a stand-up to firmly establish himself in the film and television arena, featuring in several episodes of the hit series “The King of Queens,” and recent guest appearances on “Veep” on HBO and the Disney Channel’s “Bizaardvark.” He is also recognized from his role along side the likes of Burt Reynolds, NFL Coach Jimmy Johnson and Jerome Bettis as one of the "Men Of The Square Table" in the hugely popular Miller Lite "Man Law" commercials. Jackie is currently seen in the series regular role of “Tony” in “Loudermilk” (DirectTV Audience Channel), which is Peter Farrelly’s directing foray into television.

He is also one of the proud winners of the prestigious San Francisco Comedy Competition, as well as a featured performer at the Montreal Just For Laughs Festival gala. He was chosen to perform at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colorado produced by HBO.

Early on in his career, Jackie was discovered on stage in Boston by the Farrelly brothers, who have since cast him in back to back roles in “King Pin”, “There’s Something About Mary”, “Me, Myself And Irene” “Shallow Hal” and “Stuck On You.” Recently, Jackie has had prominent roles in “The Three Stooges,” playing opposite Kevin James in “Here Comes The Boom,” and 2017's film “Special Unit.”

Jackie’s golf background, popularity from a national Phil Mickelson commercial, and relationships on the PGA and celebrity golf circuit, make him an often requested headlining comedian for affiliated and corporate event entertainment including Bay Hill in Orlando FL, Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles CA, The Hideaway Golf Club in Palm Springs, CA, Trump Doral in Miami FL. Morgan Stanley, Hertz, IBM, Intel and Yahoo to name a few.

Jackie is truly a "comic's comic" whose refreshingly unique brand of sarcastic observational humor puts him in a class all his own, apart from the many derivative cookie cutter comics plying the airways today. Audiences young and old appreciate his wit and rapid-fire "take no prisoners" delivery.

Author Wally Lamb comes to Vinegar Hill in Arundel Maine

WALLY LAMB - CLIFFORD W. BURGESS AUTHOR NIGHT

Thursday, September 24, 2026 - 6:30 PM EDT

Reserved Seating: $50 - $60 Advance | $60 - $70 Door

Doors 5:30pm | Event 6:30pm

Wally Lamb, the Oprah Book Club favorite and New York Times bestselling novelist steps off the page and onto the stage to discuss his writing with Rebecca Eaton, the PBS Masterpiece producer who brought "Downton Abbey" to America!

________________________________________________________________________

Wally Lamb is one of America’s most popular authors and an Oprah Winfrey favorite!

He has written seven New York Times bestselling novels, three of which—She’s Come Undone, I Know This Much Is True, and his most recent novel The River Is Waiting—were Oprah’s Book Club picks. She’s Come Undone and I Know This Much Is True, his first two novels, were #1 New York Times bestsellers and NYT’s Notable Books of the Year.

I Know This Much Is True, a family saga that follows the parallel lives of identical twin brothers in an epic story of betrayal, sacrifice, and forgiveness, was adopted for an HBO miniseries starring Mark Ruffalo in a dual role as twin brothers Dominick and Thomas Birdsey. Ruffalo’s performance won him a Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

Lamb’s other popular novels include I’ll Take You There, We Are Water, Wishin’ and Hopin’, and The Hour I First Believed. He also edited Couldn’t Keep It to Myself and I’ll Fly Away, two volumes of essays from students in his writing workshop at York Correctional Institution, a women’s prison in Connecticut, where he was a volunteer facilitator for twenty years.

Lamb taught English at Norwich Free Academy, where he created and directed the Connecticut school’s Writing Center. He also taught creative writing in the English Department at the University of Connecticut. Lamb lives in Connecticut with his wife, Christine, and they have three sons.

Wally Lamb always draws a crowd at his readings and author discussions. For his appearance at Vinegar Hill, he will be interviewed by Rebecca Eaton, executive producer of PBS’s popular Masterpiece for 35 years.

Eaton took the helm of the PBS series Masterpiece Theatre and Mystery! in 1985 and later oversaw a highly successful relaunch of Masterpiece which attracted a new generation of viewers to a long string of hits highlighted by Downton Abbey, the most-watched drama in PBS history. She also brought American audiences the hits Victoria, Sherlock, and Poldark, as well as other high-profile titles such as Wolf Hall, Grantchester, Prime Suspect, Cranford, Little Dorrit, The Complete Jane Austen, and All Creatures Great and Small.

Wally Lamb’s appearance is made possible with generous sponsorship support from the Burgess family, Kennebunk Savings, Partners Bank, Bergen Parkinson Attorneys, Robert & Marjorie Dennis, Vinegar Hill Music Theatre, Colony Hotel, Octopus Books, Louise Hurlbutt, and Mike Kelly. Donations and proceeds from this event support the essential programs and services provided free by Louis T. Graves Memorial Public Library, whose mission is “to enrich the lives of all we serve.”

OLIVER WOOD

Monday, September 28, 2026 - 8:00 PM EDT

Reserved Seating: $25 - $30 Advance | $35 - $40 Door

Doors 7pm | Show 8pm

Whenever Oliver Wood isn't touring with The Wood Brothers — the Grammy-nominated roots trio that he co-founded in 2006 — he typically begins his mornings the same way: in Nashville, at home, with a coffee cup in his hand and a notebook in his lap.

"There's a chair in my living room, right in front of a window," he says. "Every morning, I go down there to drink my coffee, meditate, and write. It's like a therapy session for me, because I can write without any specific goal in mind. I can be creative without being self-judgmental.

Many of the songs from Fat Cat Silhouette, Wood's second solo record, began taking shape in that chair. Produced by his Wood Brothers’ bandmate Jano Rix, it's an album of unexpected twists and turns. Longtime fans will recognize the earnest, elastic voice that has always anchored the Wood Brothers' mix of forward-looking folk and southern country-funk, but Fat Cat Silhouette doesn't spend much time looking backward. Instead, it abandons convention, breaks a few rules, and positions Oliver Wood as a roots-music innovator who's every bit as interested in the process as the product.

"I wanted to get outside my box and embrace the uncertainty of what's out there," he explains. "I wanted weird guitar tones. The song 'Yo I Surrender' has the worst guitar sound I've ever heard in my life, and I just love it. I wanted more percussion and less drums. Once we began experimenting and doing whatever we wanted, the pressure melted away and I felt liberated."

On the album's opener, "Light and Sweet," Wood matches an imaginative storyline with a melody that leaps from ground level into the stratosphere. Eight songs later, he brings things to a close with "For-tune Drives the Bus," which he recorded on an iPhone in his own backyard. While tracking the rest of Fat Cat Silhouette to analog tape, Wood pushed himself to keep things weird. “Making this album was a process of being immediate, making quick decisions, and trusting that the universe and my years of experience would handle the rest,” explains Wood.

Wood's years of experience have left him with a wide circle of collaborators, and Fat Cat Silhouette features performances from guests like Los Lobos' Steve Berlin (whose saxophone can be heard on the groove-heavy numbers "Whom I Adore” and “Yo I Surrender”), Ted Pecchio who handles bass duties throughout the collection and Marcus Henderson (who contributes flute and fife to “Whom I Adore”). Co-writers like Sean McConnell, Seth Walker, and Ric Robertson lend their help, too, while Katie Pruitt tackles a verse on the heartbroken soul ballad "Have You No Shame,” which was written by one of Wood’s mentors, the legendary Atlanta musician and songwriter Donnie McCormick. Jano Rix even pulls double-duty as producer and musician, anchoring the album's mix of mystery and melody with his percussion and keyboards.

Despite the stacked guest list, some of Fat Cat Silhouette's best moments find Wood and Rix working together as a duo. On "Little Worries," Wood sketches a picture of a reflective morning in his armchair — a cat in the window, pancakes in the skillet, anxieties crossing and leaving his mind — over Rix's inventive pulse. "That song wasn't easy to finish," he remembers. "It required experimentation. Jano and I had to give ourselves permission to just be artists, rather than being a part of the music business." Later, when time constraints prevented them from adding horns to "Star in the Corner," they chose to sing the horn parts instead. "We innovated by stacking these ridiculous ohhhs and ooohs to create a faux choir sound," he explains. "It ended up being more original sounding than a horn sound, or at least a little less typical."

A little less typical, indeed. That might as well be Fat Cat Silhouette’s mission statement. This is an al-bum that finds the art in the unexpected, and Oliver Wood — whose songwriting and vocal chops re-main as sharp as ever — at his most adventurous.

You’ll hear the heavy influence of the New Orleans sound across the band and in the stories told by their original tunes. Theater seating in the balcony will remain in place and is also first come, first serve. Please contact [email protected] for any accessibility accommodations.
